Phuket Walking Street

Sunday Market in Old Phuket Town

Phuket Walking Street is one of the more recent attractions in Phuket Old Town, it's also know as big market, which in Thai would be Talaad Yai. Phuket Walking Street has been going on since late 2013, and it's one of those weekly events one should not miss if being in Phuket Town on a Sunday. The market is held in Old Phuket Town, Thalang Road, which is right in the middle of the historical parts of Phuket Town.

Phuket provincial population in preliminary count of 2010 census was counted to be 525,018 people, including some 115,881 foreigners, or 21.1% of the population. However, it is admitted this is inaccurate since The Phuket Provincial Employment Office currently records for more than 64,000 Burmese, Lao and Cambodian workers legally residing on the island. Final figures are to be released later in 2011.

Thalang Road it self features a mix of Thai Muslim, Indian and Chinese shops, there are also some excellent restaurants and trendy smaller hotels here. The street itself is around 300 meters long, and the market is quite relaxed and very family oriented. Main reason to visit this market would be for the relaxing atmosphere, the most enjoyable street food, and to pick up some souvenirs to bring back home.
